Old Elbe Tunnel

Old Elbe Tunnel

The Old Elbe Tunnel is a remarkable feat of engineering and offers a fascinating glimpse into early 20th-century construction.

Since 1911, it has connected Hamburg’s city center with the port area south of the Elbe – underground and full of historic charm. Stretching about 426 meters, the tunnel impresses with its beautifully tiled walls and nostalgic atmosphere. Walking or cycling through is especially popular, with a rewarding view of the harbor landscape at the far end.

The original vehicle lifts are still in operation today and add to the tunnel’s unique character. It’s the perfect route for a walk off the beaten path – our team will be happy to share tips for exploring the surrounding area.
